Richard Earl Edwards

Born: 1/29/1952
Died: 4/23/2024
Age: 72
Community: Lennon, MI

Richard Earl Edwards, a spirited and kind-hearted man known for his generous nature, passed away at his home in Lennon, Michigan, on April 23, 2024, at the age of 72. Richard, was born on January 29, 1952, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Earl Ellsworth Edwards and Dorothy Nedwick, who survives him.

A proud veteran, Richard served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1972, embodying the resilience and dedication that would become hallmarks of his character. Following his military service, he became a masterful flooring installer, a craft he diligently practiced for 43 years. Richard's work ethic and commitment to his trade earned him respect and friendship within his professional community.

Richard's life was uplifted and enriched by his beloved life companion of 40 years, Jeanette Walton. Together, they blended a family that radiates his love and spirit. He is survived by his children Amy (Charles) Edwards, Chad (Holly) Edwards, Brad (Lisa) Edwards, Bryan (Kandi) Edwards, and Eric Edwards; his stepchildren Steve (Kelly) Walton, Denise (Gary) VanGorde, Scott (Lori) Walton, and Todd (Jenny) Walton; his sister Beverly Adams; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.

Those who knew Richard will remember him for the unique way he showed affection. If he picked on you, you knew you were in his good graces, a sign that he liked you. Conversely, Richard was silent around those he did not favor, a testament to the authenticity that defined him. His green thumb was legendary; he could coax life from the most stubborn of seeds, marveling family and friends with the lush beauty that sprang from his yard.

Richard’s sense of humor was infectious, and his laughter a melody that buoyed the spirits of all around him. He was an extremely giving person, always ready to help others without a second thought. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, activities he cherished for the quietude and connection to nature they provided. Richard loved camping, reveling in the simple pleasures of a night under the stars and stories shared around a campfire.

Mechanically inclined, he found joy in fixing and reselling cars, a hobby that was as much about the process of restoration and fixing as it was about the community it brought him closer to. An offer to share a cup of coffee and a cigarette was never far from his lips, as he relished the company and conversation of both old friends and new acquaintances.

Richard was very much a social person, someone who was present in the moment and enriched the lives of those who had the pleasure to accompany him throughout his journey. His guiding presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to live on in the memories and stories shared by those he touched.

As we bid farewell to Richard, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the indelible mark he left on the world. He has set forth on his final journey, but his effervescent spirit will resonate for generations, through the bonds of family, the beauty of nature, and the countless lives he warmed with his presence. Richard's legacy is one of compassion, camaraderie, and a life rich with connections that transcend time.
