DOUGHERTY, James A. "Sidespin" - Age 63, of Argentine Township, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at his residence. Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 1-9 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to McLaren Visiting Nurse and Hospice. Mr. Dougherty was born December 8, 1947 in Johnson City, TN, the son of Joseph and Vina (Watkins) Dougherty. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Cindy P. Elberling April 27, 1973 in Flint. He retired from GM AC West after 30 years of service. Mr. Dougherty was a member of the U.A.W. Local 659 and was the International U.A.W. Rep. Employee Assistance Program. He was also a former member of the Holly Masonic Lodge #134. He was an avid Billiards player. He loved fishing, vintage speakers and spending time with his family. Surviving are: wife, Cindy; daughter, Michelle and husband Sean King of Fenton; granddaughter, Sabrina King of Fenton; 3 brothers, John Wayne and wife Debbie Dougherty of Davison, Jerry Michael and wife Laura Dougherty of Davison and Richard Joseph and wife Trina Dougherty of Swartz Creek; brother-in-law, David and wife Janet Elberling of Livonia; sister-in-law, Teresa Kennedy Dougherty of Swartz Creek; several nieces and nephews.
