CARTER, Dr. Norman A. - Of Grand Blanc, age 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his residence after a prolonged battle with Lewy Body Dementia Disease.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11 am Friday, July 27, 2012
at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Steve Anderson and Pastor Glen Grant con-celebrating.
Per Dr. Carter’s wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Michigan Medical School for Research.
Visitation 10am Friday, July 27, 2012 until the time of the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Department at The University of Michigan Medical School, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Kirkridge Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund.
Dr. Carter was born in Jonestown, Guyana on January 17, 1934, son of the late Harry and Inez Carter.
On August 23, 1980, he married Margaret Kim in Flint. Dr. Carter was a member of Kirkridge Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed photography, target shooting, archery, playing the guitar and golfing. Dr. Carter was a longtime pediatrician in the area and Board Chairman of the Flint Emergency Service, a corporation that ran the Hurley emergency room for many years. He was a Pediatrician and an Allergist for Blue Care Network in the year 2000. Since then, he was involved with the residency program at Hurley (Pediatrics). (He worked at the Emergency Medical Center.) Dr. Carter was a strong advocate for children against child abuse and neglect. Dr. Carter founded the Evaluation Clinic for sexually abused children and also the Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect in the year 1998. Dr. Carter was the clinical director at Mott’s Children Center. Dr. Carter leaves legacy behind Flint-area schools. Dr. Carter was a physician for Mott Community College earlier in his career.
Dr. Carter is survived his wife, Margaret;
daughter, Vivien;
son, Alfred;
sister, Joyce and her family;
many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil.
