John Stephen Borka, a man of honor, love, and generosity, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, at the age of 78 in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Born on November 21, 1946, in Flint, Michigan, to Ernest and Evelyn (Wilson) Borka, John's life was a testament to the strength and compassion that defined him.
A proud veteran, John served his country valiantly as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication to his nation were hallmarks of his character, qualities that he carried with him throughout his life. John found love and joy in the arms of his wife, Barbara Fibranz. The couple united in marriage on September 22, 2001, at the picturesque Flamingo Gardens in Las Vegas, Nevada, embarking on a journey filled with mutual devotion and happiness.
John's life was enriched by his beloved family. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and his cherished children, Steven Cozat, Phillip (Tracy) Borka, Kimberly (Tom) Ranck, Aimee (Paul) Smothers, and Daniel (Linda) H.G. Kaatz. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Nick (Kelsey), Neil, Joseph, Stephanie (Kyle), David, Christi (Jimmy), Kassey (Travis), and his treasured great-grandchildren, Adrian, Dillion, Elena, Caleb, Kaytlynn, Paisley, James, Jackson and Adaline. John also leaves behind his brother, Paul (Valarie) Borka, and many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his guidance and warmth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Evelyn, his brothers, Bill, Emory, Jim, Joe, and Pete, and his sisters, Elizabeth and Jean.
An active man with diverse interests, John's passion for life was evident in his hobbies. He loved riding his Goldwing Motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the open road beneath him. Golf was another of his favorite pastimes, providing him with both challenge and relaxation. John took great pride in maintaining his yard, ensuring it was a reflection of the care he put into all aspects of his life. His winter home in Sebring, Florida, was a haven of rest and recreation. In his younger years, John enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, embracing the beauty of nature and the outdoors.
Those who knew John would describe him as a loving, generous, and thoughtful man. He had a heart that reached out to others, a spirit that lifted those around him, and a kindness that was felt by all who had the pleasure of his company. John's love for his family was immeasurable; they were the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
