Michael, born in Caro, Michigan, on April 25, 1949, was a man of honor and service. He bravely answered the call of his country during the Vietnam War, serving in the US Marine Corps as a Pointman, always the first one in and the last one out. His bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous citations and commendations, including the prestigious Purple Heart Medal. On November 20, 1976, he married Mary Alice Peterson at Trinity Methodist Church in Lapeer. Michael's commitment to service extended beyond his military career. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Saginaw, Marine Corp League of Mt. Morris, Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club, American Legion Post 267 of Davison, and the American Legion Post 4139 of Lapeer where he participated in numerous parades. He was an active member of the Masonic Rite and was a member of Davison Lodge 236. He became a Past Master in 2005 & 2006 to the Masons and also was part of the Eastern Stars of Davison.
Michael loved the outdoors and looked forward to deer hunting up north in Mio at his mother’s and stepfather's cabin. Anyone who knew Mike knew that he would talk about his hats and especially his model building. He would make it a point to give a “grand tour” of all of his models and his most prized model submarine, the Silversides. Mike would go on motorcycle rides around the thumb area, and this is where he would let all his worries go away. There would be days when he would blast his music from the record player, and his family all knew that those were his favorite songs. Mike had so much love for everyone, and you knew it because he would give you a silly nickname or razz on you to make you laugh.
He worked hard so that his family didn’t have to worry. Mike graduated from Mott Community College and worked for General Motors in “Buick City“as a Journeyman Millwright for over thirty years, from which he retired in 1992.
Michael leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Mary, and children Mitchell (Carrie) Petripin, Staff Sgt. Mathew Petiprin, and Monica (Kyle) Spieker, Monster Grandpa, whom his grandchildren lovingly call Lyla Petiprin, Jacob Petiprin, and Adalyn Spieker. His surviving sibling: Jeffrey Onweller, and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Roberta Onweller (Petiprin), Father(s) Lloyd J. Petiprin and Thomas Onweller, and his sisters, Michele Andre’ and Barbara Gene Petiprin.
