KERR, John William – Of Flint, age 97, died Friday, May 25, 2018
in Flint, Michigan in his sleep.
John is survived by his wife, Lavana (Bonnie), of 27 years; his son, David (Ann); daughter, Barbara (Don) Hedrick, son, Daniel (Kathy) and son John Robert;
his grandchildren, Tracy Martin, Scott Kerr, Krista Morris, Curtis Hedrick, Kevin Kerr, Tammy Brewer and Kristin Monge, Johnny, Crystal Hoffman and Jesse.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Elaine, in 1989; his brothers, Gilbert and James (Jim).
John was born on February 19, 1921 in Flint, Michigan, to parents, William Cullen Kerr and Jennie Martina Van Tyle.
After serving four years in the Navy during World War II, he graduated from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute of GMI), with a degree in electrical engineering, working there for 40 years, retiring in 1980.
John was a social active man, who was deeply involved in the financial and building programs at South Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed archery, sailing and computer programming. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving and generous person.
Visitation 9 a.m. and funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Larry Burk officiating. A reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Maple Woods Manor of Clio for their care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carriage Town Mission(address, ask Cindy Johns for envelope) or South Baptist Church Missions Fund.
