Josephine Fries age 97 of Durand passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Lodges of Durand. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the First Congregational Church of Durand. Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Josephine was born April 25, 1921 in Durand, a daughter of Donald and Emma (Nelson) Shenk. On February 14, 1945 she married Dr. Jack H. Fries, DVM. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2010. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Durand. She enjoyed watching the wildlife frolic in her backyard, assisting her husband in running the Fries Veterinary Clinic for many years, baking, sewing, crafting and she loved her family.
Josephine is survived by her children, Janet (Vaughn) Fries Bussell of New Lothrop, Jack D. (Diane) Fries of Montrose, and Lois K. (Charles) Serfozo of Maumee, OH; grandchildren, Dr. William (Dr. Janet) Foster of Durand, Katherine (Ryan) Bruneau of Grand Rapids, Dr. Julie (Joseph) Foster Leslie of Grinnell, IA, Kristina (Neil) Smits of Menasha, WI, Jack P. (Kristin) Fries of Delray Beach, FL, Eric (Jennifer) Fries of Hudson, OH, Dr. Kelsey Serfozo of Ann Arbor, and Emma Serfozo of Honolulu, Hawaii; great grandchildren, Megan Bruneau, Cameron Bruneau, Drew Foster, Nolan Smits, Carson Smits, Porter Smits, Annabelle Fries, Eleanor Fries, and Theodore Fries; several nieces and nephews, Robert Shenk, David Shenk, Jayne Mrakava, James Dallas, Jeri Lynne Butzler and Lyla Spillane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack Fries; brothers, Joseph and Donald Shenk; sister, Helen Dallas; and nephew Donald (Fred) Shenk.
The family would like to send a special thank you to all of the people at the Lodges of Durand and Memorial Hospice for all of your kindness and caring.
