GARNER, Glen Lee – of Clio, age 98, passed away August 29, 2017 at Cranberry Park Transition in Clio. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Friday, September 1, 2017, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Bruce Garner officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Clio. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cranberry Park Activities Fund, 1338 W. Vienna Rd., Clio, MI 48420.
Lee was born in Tuscola County, MI on February 13, 1919, son of the late Glen E. and Elsie (Webster) Garner. He married Anastasia Kapernaros on October 14, 1945 and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2017. Lee proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. This included the battles of Sicily, Rome, Arno, Rhineland, Naples, Foggia, Southern France and Central Europe. He was part of the 171st Field Artillery – 45th Infantry Division and he was discharged as a Major. Lee joined his grandfather and father in the family business after returning from WWII at Webster and Garner. He was a lifelong active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Lee also served on the Clio School Board and Vienna Township Planning Commission. He loved Dixieland Jazz, dancing, gardening and watching birds.
Lee is survived by sister, Mary Hammond; children, Leane (Paul) Blake, Glen (Laurie) Garner, Bruce (Sharon) Garner and Lisa (Don) Belanger; grandchildren, Erin (Randy Kinder) Blake, Andrew (Miranda Whitmore) Blake, Esen (Todd) Zentner, Seher (Drew) Judkins, Melis Garner, Kelly Garner, Haylee (Kevin) Voogt, Nathan (Melissa) Belanger, Adam (Liz) Belanger and Amy Belanger; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
