Mr. MacDonald was born in Flint, Michigan on October 14, 1943 to State Senator and
Attorney Robert James MacDonald and Madeline Parkhurst MacDonald. He was a graduate of
St. Matthews High School, the University of Notre Dame and Wayne State University Law
School. He was married to Jacqueline Marie Pesik on June 24, 1967. He was a parishioner at St.
Matthews Church for most of his life where he served as an altar boy and as a lector in later
years.
Duncan joined his father and Attorney Jack FitzGerald in the practice of law in 1968, in a
firm dedicated to assisting injured and disabled workers. He continued to represent workers
during the next four decades, working at various times with his father, as well as his brothers
Brian and Tim, brother-in-law Tim, and son Robert. His loyal secretary, friend and confidante Judith E.Hanson worked by his side for over forty years.Duncan was known as a fierce and formidable advocate on behalf of his clients. He was a past lecturer on workers’ compensation at
the Michigan State University School of Labor, the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association and the
American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Over the years, he represented and advised thousands of Flint area workers inluding members of UAW Locals 326, 581, 598, 599, 651, 659 and 1292.
When General Motors closed the Fisher #1 Assembly Plant, he and his law firm purchased
the UAW Local 581 Building and provided a place for former workers and retirees to congregate, and later donated the building to the Toys for Tots. Duncan was active in state and local Democratic politics throughout his life, and among his many accolades and awards, he was
particularly proud of receiving the Andrew Jackson Transue Award at a dinner honoring him and
Governor Jennifer Granholm.
He was a longtime member of the Flint Golf Club, the Flint City Club, the Flint
University Club and the Flint Elks Club. He was a member of the Notre Dame Club of Flint, the
Sorin Society of Notre Dame and there was no bigger supporter of the Fighting Irish. The
friendships he made while attending Notre Dame lasted a lifetime. Duncan was also an avid gin
rummy player, and he loved to play cards and dice with his family and friends. Duncan’s keen
intellect and sharp wit will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bob & Madeline MacDonald and his elder sister
Marcia MacDonald Vick. Duncan leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Jacqueline
Pesik MacDonald; his son Robert MacDonald of Flint; his daughter Margaret George, and her
husband Ron, of Royal Oak, MI; his daughter Amy MacDonald Balas, and her fiancé Dan
Rayala, of Manitowish Waters, WI; his daughter Martha Wilker, and her husband Chris, of

Blanc; Stephen MacDonald of Grand Blanc; Tim & Ami MacDonald of Grand Blanc; Mary & Jim
Luxem of Winnetka, IL; and brother-in law Bruce Vick, and his wife Nancy. He is also survived
by dozens of cousins, nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces whom he loved dearly.

miss him deeply.
