STRNAD, Frank F. – Of Flint, age 80, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,Father Steve Anderson officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation 11a.m.–8p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Frank will be at the church from 12 p.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass.
Frank was born in Flint, Michigan on June 2, 1931, the son of the late Frank and Tilda (Otilia) Strnad and was a resident of Flint for most of his life. Frank married Doris Schroeder on January 26, 1952 in Flint. Frank proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Special Services as a Soldier and Entertainer. Frank was the founder of American Designs Incorporated as inventor of the Strnad Harmonica Pick-up. Frank and his brothers entertained professionally for many years as the Strand Brothers. He was a member of the Musicians Union. Frank enjoyed fishing, playing harmonica and spending time with his family. Frank retired from General Motors, Buick Motor Division after 32 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #599. Surviving are loving wife of 60 years, Doris;three children, Marcelene (Norman) Mansour of CA, Kathleen Childers of WI and Teresa Ann (Michael) Ward of Linden;seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and Don.
