Mary was born in Burghalle, Romania on August 25, 1934, daughter of the late Martin and Rosina (Horeth) Hesch. Mary's life journey began amidst the turmoil of World War II. Her family's courageous escape from the advancing Russian Army led them to Germany in 1944. Surviving the ravages of war, Mary embarked on a new chapter in 1951 when she, her father, and her sister Rosie immigrated to Canada, settling in the welcoming embrace of Kitchener, Ontario. It was here that Mary's path intertwined with that of her beloved husband, Hans Max Otto Hanschmann. Their union on May 18, 1957, marked the beginning of a remarkable partnership that spanned five decades, blessed with the joys of three cherished children, all born in the land they now called home. In 1966, Mary's adventurous spirit led her to new horizons once more, briefly residing in Flint, MI before finding her forever home in Davison, MI, where she flourished for 57 years. A woman of diverse passions, Mary found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for travel took her far and wide, her green thumb brought beauty to gardens near and far, and her creative spirit found expression through crafting. Yet, above all, Mary cherished moments spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In retirement, she and Hans found bliss in the warmth of Florida, with Suntide Island Beach Club in Sarasota holding a special place in her heart. Together, they created memories that would last a lifetime, weaving a tapestry of love and laughter that will endure beyond the bounds of time. Mary's legacy is one of resilience, love, and adventure. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness, and her memory will be forever treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Mary is survived by her 3 children, Michael (Karen) Hanschmann, Ronald (Gabrielle) Hanschmann and Karen (James) Weiss; grandchildren, Michael, Erika, Renate, Hans, Hannah, Erich, and Melissa; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Horst (Karin) Hanschmann and Claus (Brigitte) Hanschmann; many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Rosina Hesch; husband, Hans Max Otto Hanschmann; and sister, Rosie (George) Frim; brother-in-law, Peter (Maureen) Hanschmann.
