LOAR, Burgess William “Bill”, Jr. – Of Flint, age 91, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Ovid Healthcare Senior Living, Ovid.
Funeral Mass will be held at 12 P.M. Friday, September 4, 2020 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymour Avenue, Flint, Father Philip Schmitter officiating.
Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mr. Loar will be at the church from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass.
Burgess was born in Huntington, West Virginia on August 26, 1929, the son of the late Burgess W. and Inez Loar, Sr.
Burgess served in the U.S. Army as a Dental Technician and re-enlisted into the 11th Airborne Division.
Burgess served from 1947-1952, receiving the Purple Heart and many medals.
After the military Burgess worked 30 years for GM V-8 Engine, retiring in 1983.
Burgess leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Ramona J. Loar of Flint, MI;
loving and devoted daughter, Carolyn (Loar) Sparks of Grand Blanc, who shared the same birthdate;
grandsons, Leonard Sparks Jr. of Clio,
Tyril (Cynthia) Sparks U.S.N., Marquan Sparks of Tennessee and
Matthew Sparks U.S.N.;
great-grandson, Jayden Sparks of Clio;
sisters, Betty J. Allen and Darlene Briggs, of Flint;
nieces, Drucilla Allen of Ohio, Sharon Allen of Flint, Michelle Briggs of Illinois;
nephew, James Briggs of IL;
step-children, Jimmie (Bonita) Edwards of Flint, Juanita Vaughn and Jacqueline Edward, both of Grand Blanc;
special friends, Wilbur (Elenore) Ennis of Holly,
Ashley Illig, Bill Eubanks,
American Legion Post #502 Commander and Service Officer Esene Nethaway; special friend, Clyde and Dr. Jagdish Bhagat.
Burgess was preceded in death by his parents, Burgess W. (Inez) Loar Sr.; son, Burgess W. Loar III; sister, Ada Loar and great-granddaughter, Kristianna Sparks.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to Ovid Healthcare staff for the loving care they showed Burgess.
