PRATER, John David - Age 82, of Linden, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St. Linden (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via John's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Pastor Brad Foster officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
John was born May 22, 1942 in Rushville, IN, the son of Malburt M. and Violet Catherine (Hunt) Prater. He was a graduate of Trotwood Madison High School in Trotwood, OH; He received a Bachelor's Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, IA and he received a Master's Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA. He married Marlee I. Moulton August 8, 1983 in New Hampshire and she preceded him in death May 16, 2022. John retired from the Flint Community School System as a teacher. He enjoyed antiquing, loved attending the Indianapolis 500, he was a big Indy Car fan. He also had a 24 foot boat and loved fishing; he had a day when they caught 9 salmon, 8 weighing between 28-29 pounds each and they canned 106 pints from that day. He was an avid college sports fan, especially for The Ohio State University and the University of Michigan.
Surviving are: his children, Eric Prater (Lisa Welch), Chad Prater and Jodi Grekowicz (Thomas); grandchildren, Alexandria Holley (Dan Mora), Tripp Prater, Olivia Hernandez, Aaron and Austen Grekowicz; great grandson, Gabriel Mora; sister, Deana Mickey (Ken); and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Malburt and Violet Prater. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
