Wilbur Lee Ennis of Holly, MI, age 90 passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024. He and his family moved to Holly in the late 1930’s during the Great Depression where Wilbur learned to farm, was an avid fisherman, and loved to hunt.
Wilbur graduated from Holly High School in 1951 and attended trade school for electronics repair. He went on to work for GM for over 30 years, worked as a television and radio technician in Holly and worked the family farm until the time of his passing. Wilbur married Eleanor Coste of New Orleans, LA in 1972.
Wilbur loved spending time with his family, working the land (with his trusted tractor Betsy) and watching football. He helped neighbors with their gardens, their lawns, and was a resource when they had questions on how to plant, fix a tractor, and ultimately run a farm. All the kids (family and locals alike) looked forward to coming out to the farm where Wilbur would pop popcorn for his nieces, nephews and anyone who was there. He was a loving and vigilant caregiver to his wife until her death in 2021. He was a funny, tough-loving, insightful uncle, great-uncle and great-great uncle who would offer wisdom and guidance learned from his life lessons to his relatives and those who adopted him as their “uncle”. Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor E. Ennis; parents Willie and Bessie Mariah (Wright) Ennis of Holly, Michigan; brothers: William (Inez) Ennis of Holly, MI, James (Dolores) Ennis of Flint, MI, and Sterling (Olga “Peggy”) Ennis of Holly, Michigan; sisters: Ellen (Lee) Morgan of Davison, Fannie (Al) Moseley of Pittsburgh, PA, Bessie May (Henry) Lewis of San Diego, CA, Loma (Raymond) Scott of Corpus Christi Texas, and Eunice Ennis of Flint, MI. Wilbur is survived by his nieces and nephews: Robert (AJ Walker) Ennis, Virginia Lewis (Laurence) Heller, Anthony (Bridget) Ennis, Robin (William) Walters, Yasmine Aziza Yamini, Deborah (Abraham) Plummer, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, relatives in-law and friends. Special thanks to Jennifer R. Heller, Robert E. Ennis, Jr., and Michael Rowe his caregiving team that provided 24-hour love and support, Michelle (Jarvis) Bellamy, his great-niece who ensured he had medical alert services, the caregivers and nursing staff of Wellbridge Grand Blanc and Ascension Genesys Hospital. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday. August 10, 2024, at Dryer Funeral Home, 101 First St, Holly, MI 48442 (248) 634-8291. The burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. |
