YOST, Donald S. – of Clio and Higgins Lake, age 87, died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday, August 6, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 218 S. Mill St., Clio, Rev. Barry Parker officiating. Burial will be at Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3-8PM. He will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 12 Noon until time of services at 1 PM. Contributions may be made to the Clio Lions Club.
Don was born August 22, 1923, in Utica, MI to the late Charles and Beatrice (Bortle) Yost. He resided in Clio since 1951. Mr. Yost served in the US Army during WW II. He retired from Buick in 1981 with 42 years seniority. He won several maximum GM Suggestion Awards. He attended First Baptist Church in Clio. He was a life member of the Clio Lions and was past president. He was also a member of the American Legion Clio Post #158, UAW Local #599 and the Higgins Lake Foundation. Don enjoyed fixing things and puttering in the garage, and was always ready to help neighbors. He loved his grandkids and valued his family above all else.
Surviving are: 3 children, Thomas (Mary) Yost of Clio, Timothy (Vicki) Yost of Birmingham, Teri (Alan) Kline of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, Alan (Stephanie) Yost, Richard Yost, Charles (Pamela) Yost, Matthew Kline, Rebekah Kline and Benjamin Yost; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Lelah Yost, in 2003; and a brother, Melvin “Bud” Yost, in 1992.
