Age: 69
Community: Flint, MI

Peru Anthony Ivey, his family members called him Tony, was born March 22, 1950 to the late Charles and late Mary Moss Ivey in the city of Detroit Michigan.

Peru was born and raised in Detroit. He worked at Cobo Hall and liked to reminisce about all the famous individuals and singing groups he met while working there. Peru was a celebrity also; he sang with the group The Fantastic Four for a number of years.

Peru was seeking to find the Lord when he started to question why he was here of this earth. What was he supposed to do? And as the Lord always does when one is truly seeking Him, He put someone in his life to guide him in The Way. Brother Crocker, the minister at the Lemay church in Detroit was that someone. Peru started studying and asking questions about Jesus and Brother Crocker found the place where it is written, and Peru obeyed the gospel. Peru then went to work in the service of the Lord. He went wherever Brother Crocker went and became a well-known song leader throughout the Brotherhood. Peru loved to sing, he loved being an instrument of the Lord. He always said: “There is no better sound than to hear the Lord’s people lift their voices in song”.

Peru was a celebrity once again as he literally became the poster child for Academy West Alternative Education. At the age of 68 Peru obtained his high school diploma. He said he could cross one more thing off of his bucket list. His motto: “It’s never too late to get your high school diploma”. He loved learning, he loved his instructors and most of all “Pops” (that’s what the student body called him) he loved the students of Academy West. Thank you, Academy West for showing your love toward him.
