WINN, Steven Lee “Winner”, RN, BSN, CBN, – Of Flint, age 57, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center after a short battle with Leukemia.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Wes Morris, from The Rock Church in Linden.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Visitation 2-8 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 5-8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to MHSAA Officials for Kids or to the family for a nursing scholarship to be developed in his name at Baker College.
Steven was born in Flint, Michigan on July 18, 1955, the son of Eldon and Sally (Lundin) Winn. He graduated from Northwestern High School, Class of 1973. Steven received his Associate’s Degree of Nursing from Mott Community College in 1978 and his Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing from Ferris State University in 2005. He was employed at Hurley Hospital in 1979 as a Nurse Extern, McLaren Hospital from 1980 to 2012 as an RN and Genesys Hospital from 2012 to present as an Assistant Nurse Manager. He was a clinical Instructor for Mott College School of Nursing in 2006, and Baker College School of Nursing 2007 to present. Steven was a Hockey Player GFHA, Mott College Hockey, and Hockey Official for GFHRA, MHSAA, EMHA, USA Hockey, IHL, USHL. Steven was a highly respected and a well-known Referee in Chief of Greater Flint Hockey Referee Association. Steven was an avid golfer, gardener, jokester, loving father and amazing "Gampa".
Steven leaves behind his loving wife of 20 years, Sandy of Flint;
son, Trevor Winn of Swartz Creek;
daughters, Amanda Winn Of Grand Blanc, Melissa Caldwell of Panama City, FL, Laura VanPetten of Traverse City;
beloved grandson, Noah Robert Caldwell;
mother, Sally Winn of Petoskey;
sister, Karen Winn of Petoskey;
brother, Mike Winn of Port Charlotte, FL;
and father in law, Edgar Hayes and sister-in-law, Cathy Sudborough; many, many close friends and extended family. A Special Thank you to the co-workers and staff at Genesys Hospital.
