SCHOPIERAY, Carl - Of Flint, age 88, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at The Oaks at Woodfield.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Friday, September 6, 2013
at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery with military graveside services under the auspices of Davison VFW Post #4087 following the funeral Mass.

Contributions may be directed to the Davison Knights of Columbus Council #4090 or Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Visitation 2-4pm and 6-8pm Wednesday and 12-8pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 6:30pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. A Knights of Columbus Davison Council #4090 3rd Degree Memorial Service will also be held 7pm Thursday evening followed by a 4th Degree Memorial Service at the funeral home. Mr. Schopieray will be at the church 10am Friday until the time of the Mass.

Carl was born in Burt, Michigan on April 25, 1925. He married Margaret LaCross on May 11, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon Heights. Carl served in the United States Navy on the USS Enterprise as a Gunner’s Mate during World War II. He was Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Davison Council #4090, and Past Faithful Navigator. He was a life member of Davison VFW #4087 and Burton Eagles #659. He was also a member of Herzog Blue Jacket Boosters and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Carl was employed by General Motors for 40 years, retiring in 1982 and was a member of UAW Local #659. He enjoyed calling the Knights of Columbus weekly bingos, assembling the “The Knights Times”, fishing, polka dancing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret;

daughters, Betty and husband Kenneth Ritter of Flint and Barbara and husband Gerald Weber of Oregon, Ohio;

5 grandchildren, Todd (Maricris) Ritter of Grand Blanc, Julie (Michael) Isecke of Shelby Twp., Jennifer (Aaron) Wartella of Grand Blanc, Lori (Brady) Kesling of Toledo, Ohio and Kevin Weber(Kelly Hanner) of Oregon, Ohio;

6 great-grandchildren, Cody, Kylie and Noah Wartella, Paige, Sophia and Lily Isecke;

2 sisters-in-law, Carol LaCross of Traverse City and Dolores (Rollin) Coutchie of Grand Rapids;

several nieces, nephews and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen Weber, brother-in-law, Donald LaCross, 4 brothers, Leo Little, Earl Little, Dean Walker and Eugene Schopieray and 2 sisters, Leona Greene and Lorna Fahselt.
