Kenneth David West, age 93, of Grand Blanc Township, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children.
Kenneth had a lifetime commitment to service, most specifically to St. Vincent DePaul, St. Mary's Food Pantry, North Side Soup Kitchen, and many others. He was an honored Marine serving at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. Kenneth reached Sergeant level and was a recipient of the Purple Heart during his service and received the Korean Service Medal. Kenneth was honored to be a member of The Marine Corps League and The Chosin Few. Kenneth served as the Commandant and the Chaplin for the Marine Corps League. In 1999-2000 he was honored as Marine of the Year - for the Flint Detachment. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW 822. Kenneth retired from General Motors, AC Spark Plug in Flint, after 30 years of service in 1983.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Dorothy West; children, Karen Histed, Theresa Asperger, David (Andrea) West, Daniel (Stacey) West, Dennis (Patricia) West, Colleen (David) Schon and Phillip (Lorraine) West, Sister-in-law Carolyn West; Brother-in-law Oscar Freeman, Sister-in-law Dorothy O’Brien; followed by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded by his parents, Albert and Rose West; Daughter Joyce Bridgett; Sisters Alberta Pruder, Lorraine Weiler, Shirley Freeman, Beverly Marble, Rosalie Ringlein, and Brother Ronald West.
A funeral visitation for Kenneth will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E Hill Rd, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 12:00 PM at St Mary Catholic Church, 2500 N Franklin Ave, Flint, Michigan 48506. An interment with military honors will occur at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, Michigan 48442 at 2:00 pm.
