FENT, Duane F. – of Birch Run, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at McLaren of Flint.
Duane was born November 15, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to the late Lloyd and Florence (Starkweather) Fent. He had resided in the Birch Run area all of his life and was a graduate of Birch Run High School. Duane married Dorothy Stoick on December 3, 1955 in Birch Run. Mr. Fent was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served on the U.S.S Hornet. Duane worked in construction for many years. He was Co-owner of the Exit Restaurant in Birch Run as well as the owner of the Best Western and former Box Car Saloon. Duane was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Birch Run. He was also very active in the community and was a member of the Birch Run VFW post #7542, and an honorary member of the American Legion Post #125, the Masonic Temple, Moose Lodge, Eagles and former member of the Birch Run Downtown Development Association and the Business Men's Association. Mr. Fent was also a volunteer firefighter. In 2013 he was chosen to be Grand Marshall at the Birch Run 4th of July parade. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: wife, Dorothy Fent of Birch Run; daughters, Denise Bechtel (Don Powell) of Cadillac, Linda (Bryan) Hildebrant of Cadillac, Michele Fent (Keith Baker) of Birmingham, Cynthia Fent (Fiancé John Guidarelli) of Birch Run, Lisa Marie Fent of Birch Run; 4 grandchildren, Holly, Jason, Devon, Gillian; 7 great great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Ruth) Fent of Birch Run; sister, Nancy (Curtis) Engelhardt-Cribbens of Birch Run; furry companion, Gabby the dog; many other loving family members and friends; Duane was preceded in death by brother in law, Marty Engelhardt.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, 8101 Poellet St. in Birch Run. Pastor Steve Abend officiating. Burial in Birch Run Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Friday from 11AM until 8PM and on Saturday at the church from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM.
