Verna Matilda Smith, 88, lifetime Lapeer resident, died Saturday December 16, 2017. She was born August 20, 1929 in Lapeer to parents Vern and Evelyn (Somerville) Hart.
Mrs. Smith was proud to have worked 25+ years as a secretary in the administration offices of the former Oakdale Center. She was part of the State Retirees Association, GM Retirement Club and life member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Verna enjoyed doing puzzles, Christmas time, drinking a beer and eating a chocolate bar. Above all else; she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children: Orrie (Paula) Smith, III of Flint; Renee (Gregory) Pearson of Lapeer; Debbie Piorunek, grandchildren: Sean; Shea; Kelsea; Matthew; Rachel; Crystal; Megan; Justin; Richard; Joe and Nick, great-grandchildren: Logan; Avery; Jozlyne; Brodric; Hannah; Bryson and Chloe, siblings: John (Denise) Hart of Lapeer; Marion Bradow of Lapeer and Georgia Palmer of Clarkston. Verna was preceded in death by her husband: Orrie Smith, Jr., son: Allen Smith, siblings: Jim Hart; Elizabeth Coutts; Peg Jagow and Vivian Bedow as well as her parents: Vern & Mary Ethel Hart and Evelyn Hart.
Mrs. Smith’s visitation will be 10:00am-11:00am Tuesday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer, immediately concluded by a funeral ceremony at 11:00am Tuesday, officiated by Pastor Alex Peterson. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lapeer.
