John Silvio Moliassa, 93, died Monday, March 18, 2019, at his home in Flint, MI.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI, from 9:30-11:30 AM. Funeral service will follow visitation at 11:30 AM.
John was born in Highland Park, MI; one of four children of the late Angelo and Nellie Moliassa (Mogliazza).
He was a proud member of the Army Air Force and served in World War II as a gunner. Later, he attended electronics school to learn to work on airplanes.
John attended Michigan State Normal College, where he earned a teaching degree in science education. While there, he met and married Mildred Aileen Hibbard, who preceded him in death in 2011. They were married for 62 years. John’s teaching career spanned 36 years in the Bentley, Genesee, and Flint Community Schools-McKinley and Mott Adult High School, where he taught mathematics, science, photography, and electronics.
He will be remembered for his passion for teaching, love of cars, U-of-M sports, woodworking-cars, toys, rocking bikes, wonderful letter-writing with drawings included, photography-lots of photography, and his deep and abiding love of family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his 9 children: John (Ann) Moliassa, Marie (Jim) Elias, Jim (fiance’ Dawn) Moliassa, Mary (Dan) Hocken, Arnold Moliassa, Rosemary (Edward) Reason, Richard (Nancy) Moliassa, Melvin (Vivienne) Moliassa, and Grace (Rob) Leinen, 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, brother, Albert (Dorothy) Moliassa, sister, Louise Rodgers, many nieces and nephews, and special care-giver, Cheryl Ranger.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Flint Classroom Support Fund, in memory of John, who loved to teach!!
