Slocum, Vivian L. of Flushing, age 96, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 27, 2018 at Mayfair Bible Church of Flushing. Pastor Michael Breznau will officiate. Burial will be in Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 Sunday at the funeral home and 9 until time of service at the church on Monday. Contributions may be made to Carriage Town Ministries. Mrs. Slocum was born in Ashley, Michigan, March 7, 1922 the daughter of Clifton and Ella Johnson Whitford. She married Stephen J. Slocum, January 3, 1947. He preceded her in death December 13, 2012. Mrs. Slocum was a former member of the First Baptist church of Flushing where she was passionate about serving the young people of the church family. Her life was dedicated to service to her family. In her early years she taught school in a one room school house. Surviving are sons; Laurence "Larry" and wife Margaret Slocum of Athens, TN and Ted and wife Sue Slocum of Flushing, grandchildren; Julie Taylor of IN, Laura and husband Dwayne Lee of TN, Shawn and wife Kristin Slocum of TX and Ryan Slocum of Grand Blanc, 6 great grandchildren, brother: Bob Whitford of Rapid River, MI, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother; Lyle Whitford and sister Lillian Bishop. |
