Hovae “Hobie” Dean Loranger of Rockford, age 52, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014. He was born to Thomas and Sharon (née Keith) Loranger in Saginaw, Michigan on July 9, 1961. Hobie was a 1979 Birch Run High School graduate, where he was a gifted athlete. He was a talented baseball player, captain of the football team, and a state champion wrestler by the age of fifteen. Hobie was a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University after which, he worked in the logistics field; and a long-time resident of Rockford. Hobie had an immeasurable love for all things U of M; he wasn’t just a fan, he was a fanatic. Beyond sports and athletics, Hobie loved playing poker, reading a good book, watching sci-fi movies, listening to hard rock, and traveling with his wife; he was also very skilled in the kitchen. He was never at a loss for words and had the greatest, witty sense of humor. Hobie touched many lives and was an inspiration to all; he knew no limits or boundaries. Hobie was kind and compassionate and generous to a fault. He volunteered at Lakes Elementary School, where the kids loved Hobie, and looked up to him. Hobie leaves behind his beloved wife of nineteen years, Tammy Sue; special sister-in-law Tracy Lang; his parents Thomas (Cathy) Loranger and Sharon Porter; brothers; Shane (Jen) and John Loranger; sisters Shawn (Kevin) Boelter and Shannon (Brian) Cogswell; father-in-law William Lang; brother-in-law Bill (Amy) Lang; sister-in-law Tricia Darling; fifteen nieces and nephews, who all loved him dearly for many different reasons; and special friends Craig and Carol Bond.
