Craig, Erwin J. – of Montrose, age 94, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at Masonic Pathways in Alma. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Montrose United Methodist Church. Rev. Susan Bennett Stiles officiating. Burial in Montrose Township Cemetery with military honors under the direction of the American Legion Post #324. Family will receive visitors at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose on Thursday from 5-8 PM, Friday from 3-8 PM and at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until time of service. A masonic memorial service will be held at 7 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Montrose United Methodist Church, Shriner's Children's Hospital or Heartland Hospice.
Erwin was born April 21, 1921 in Mayville, Michigan to the late Hillary and Frances (Wells) Craig. He graduated from Mayville High School. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran with service in WW II. Erwin married Pearl Louise Lockhart on February 2, 1944. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2007. He had resided in Montrose the past 66 years. Erwin was self-employed for many years, worked for McNally Buick – Chevrolet and retired from Goyette Mechanical. He was a life member and past master of the Montrose Masonic Lodge #428 F&AM. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, The Bay City Consistory and held state office with the Grand Lodge. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post #324. Erwin was a longtime member of the Montrose Lions Club. He was a world traveler and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing. He also had a deep love for horses and rode with the Genesee County Sheriff's Posse for many years. He showed his beloved Pinto, Pino Lee, with great pride and continued to ride well into his 80's. Erwin was a cowboy at heart.
Surviving are: Daughters: Karen (John) Bochniak of Flint, Joyce (David) Lehman of Flint; Son, Jim (Kate) Craig of Plymouth; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
