Born on October 30, 1933, in Huron City, Michigan, Elwyn was the proud son of George and Ruth (Reese) Will. His life was a testament to the virtues of hard work and compassion, which he cultivated from a young age.
Elwyn's journey began at Harbor Beach Zion Lutheran School, where he received his early education before dedicating himself to the family farm. His commitment to service was evident when he entered the United States Navy on December 1, 1955. Elwyn served his country with honor until his discharge on August 23, 1957, embodying the courage and dedication that would define his character throughout his life.
The foundation of Elwyn's heart was his beloved wife, Phyllis Schave, whom he married on December 13, 1952, at the Port Hope Church. Their union was blessed with a love that spanned over seven decades. Together, they raised a family of four sons: Brian (Lila), Jeffrey (Judy), Rodney (Chari), and Rick (Veronica). His legacy continued to flourish through his grandchildren, Nicholas (Nicole), Adam (Jennifer), Derrick, Nickolas (April), Karissa, Hannah, Benjamin (Dawn), Jeffrey (Mallory), Walter, and Amanda, as well as his great-grandchildren, Carter, Paisley, Ethan, Oliver, Brooks, Piper, Kayla, Brayden, Conner, Boone, Cade and Selah.
Elwyn's professional life was marked by dedication and skill. He worked for the Operating Engineers Local #324 for 43 years, with 12 years at Ace Asphalt and 17 years at Flint Asphalt. His commitment extended beyond his work as he was an active member of the Eagles, a faithful member of the Holy Cross Church in Flushing, and a member of the Port Hope AMVETS, Post 115.
Beyond his work and service, Elwyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a love for polka music that was as infectious as his smile, and he cherished the times spent camping in Port Hope with his family and friends. Those who knew Elwyn best would say his faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all his endeavors and providing comfort to those around him.
Elwyn is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis; his sons and their spouses; his grandchildren and their spouses; his great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Ruth Will. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jack, Ronald (Barbara) Will, and George (Delores) Will; and his beloved grandson, Caleb.
Elwyn Edward Will leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, inspiring service, and enduring faith. In his memory memorials are suggested to Port Hope AMVETS, Post 115, 8011 Rubicon Rd., Port Hope, MI 48468.
