MITCHELL, Max Lee – of Birch Run, age 76, died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Ss. Francis and Clare Parish in Birch Run. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Burial in Birch Run Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 1-8 PM at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run and at the church from 9:00 AM until time of Mass at 10AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ss. Francis and Clare Parish or Adopt a Pet in Fenton, Michigan.
Max was born May 27, 1942 in Seneca, Missouri to the late Troy and Estellee (Bailey) Mitchell. He grew up in Missouri and graduated from Southwestern High School in Flint, Michigan with the class of 1960. Max served his country in US Marines Corps. He graduated from Mott Community College with an Associate Degree. On May 14, 1971 he married Helen M. McNamara in Flint, Michigan. Max was employed by GM and Hamtramck Energy Services for 55 years. He was a member of Ss. Francis and Clare Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #7233, and the Birch Run Lions Club. He enjoyed boating, riding his motorcycle, and spending time at Houghton Lake with his family. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are: Wife of 47 years, Helen; Children, Michelle Mitchell, Erin (Todd Powers) Robbins, Jim (Autumn) Mitchell, Troy (Bobbie) Mitchell; 9 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren and one on the way; Father in law, Edward McNamara; Mother in law, Beverly Smithson; Brothers in law, Jim (Diane) McNamara, Mike (Pam) McNamara, Ed (Joanne) McNamara, Chris (Diane) McNamara; Sisters in law, Mary Ann (Paul McFarland) Gust, Jeanette (David) Buthker, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Son, Michael Mitchell; Great Grandson, Kaleb Leon Mitchell; Siblings, Jack Batson, Peggy (Foster) Gillespie; Father in law, Orla Dale Smithson; Mother in law, Peggy McNamara.
