Vernon E. Grant
Age 85 of New Lothrop passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso.
Vernon was born on January 31, 1933, the son of Clinton and Eunice Grant, and was raised by foster parents, James and Isabelle (McKone) Little. He graduated from New Lothrop High School with the class of 1951. Vernon married Noretta “Jeanie” Rose on August 23, 1952; they celebrated 66 years of marriage this year.
Vernon worked on the farm and as a cement truck driver for many years. Vernon enjoyed spending time with his family and attending school sporting events of his children and grandchildren. During his life, Vernon served as President of the New Lothrop Board of Education, volunteered for the Twin Township Ambulance and participated in the Rolling Readers Program at New Lothrop Elementary School for which he received the Golden Apple Award. He was a lifetime member of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star, where he had served as Worshipful Master and Worthy Patron.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Jeanie Grant; his children, Christopher (Marlene) Grant, Jan (Glenn) Walker, April (Dennis) Byrne, and Kimberlee (Scott) Kline; his daughter-in-law, Pam Grant; and his 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his son, James Grant; his foster parents, James and Isabelle Little; and all his brothers and sisters.
Please join his family in celebrating his life at a luncheon memorial service that will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church Hall, 7495 Orchard Street, New Lothrop, MI.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Twin Township Ambulance, Oliver Woods Retirement Village, or the wishes of the family. |
