MERTA, Beverly Mae – Of Grand Blanc, age 94, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 23, 2013.
Cremation has taken place.
Born January 20, 1919 in Norfolk, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William George and Carolena Edith Martin. She was married to Victor Leo Merta on August 10, 1945 in Flint, Michigan.
She was a 1937 graduate of Flint Northern High School and attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She was a resident of Grand Blanc Township since 1968.
Mrs. Merta was a passionate and knowledgeable gardener, elected president of the Grand Blanc Chapter of Women’s National Farm and Garden Association from 1981-1982. She was also accomplished in the art of needlepoint, which developed into a passion she never tired of.
She is survived by her three children, Catherine Vaughn of Lansing, Michigan, Leo Merta of Half Moon Bay, California and Valerie and husband Jon Moot of Orlando, Florida;
two grandchildren, Alexandra and Jon Moot; other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Victor Merta and her brother, William G. (Bill) Martin, Jr. of Flushing, Michigan.
