AYOTTE, Richard Louis - Of Grand Blanc, age 86, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 at McLaren-Flint.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated 12Noon, Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Reverend Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating.
Cremation has taken place and a private burial service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
Visitation 11am Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Richard was born in Cheboygan, MI on October 17, 1926, the son of the late Charles and Clara (Shields) Ayotte. He married Dorothy Carley in 1947 and she died in 1971. In 1973, he married Marjorie White-Simpson at Kirkridge Presbyterian Church in Grand Blanc. Richard was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 36 years retiring in 1982. He also worked at EDS in Warren.
Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His two great-grandchildren were a particular joy. Richard and Marjorie enjoyed their many trips and winters in Palm Springs, California. He greatly enjoyed playing golf, bowling, card games, especially with best friends Allen and Nancy Sliger. Richard enjoyed watching Tiger baseball, and Walleye fishing with his Bell Telephone buddies.
Richard is survived by his wife Marjorie;
son, Steven L. (Denise) Ayotte and their children, Austin and Lindsey;
step-son, Brian White;
step-daughter, Laurie Powell and her daughter, Heather (Matt) Zielke, their children, Graham and Gavin;
also surviving are his aunt, Sophie Shields;
and many close first cousins, nieces and nephews;
sister-in-law, Marion Rodgers;
brothers-in-law, Richard, James and Donald Simpson;
brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Shirley McLanahan.
He was preceded in death by his beloved step-daughter Karen White in 2011, sister Darlene Minge and brother and sister in law, Howard and Irene Ayotte.
