BROWN, James A. – of Vassar, age 86, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 14, 2020, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Rev. Jim Bruner officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1PM until 8PM, and Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Burial will be at 11AM Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice.
James was born April 16, 1933 in Mt. Morris Township, Michigan to the late Chancy and Albena (Birchmeier) Brown. He married Marlene Bannan-Basner on May 7, 1960 at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Mr. Brown is a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. James worked as a Millwright for AC Spark Plug for many years before retiring. After retirement, James became an organic farmer. James was very proud of his organic farm and loved gardening, he even grew and popped his own popcorn that everyone enjoyed. James was a member of Thumb Organic Growers Association, the NRA, and Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, animals on the farm, antiques, and restoring Cushman Motor Scooters. Above all, James loved his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him.
Surviving are: Wife of 59 years, Marlene Brown; Daughter, Tammi Dreher; Sons: Eric (Cynthia) Brown, and Tim (Audrey) Brown; Grandchildren: Matthew (Laura) Brown, Lucas Brown, Emily Brown, Aurelia (Albert) Kissel, Claudia Brown, Abby Brown, and Grace Brown; Great grandchildren: Bradley Wilson, Jacob Kissel, and Amara Kissel; Siblings: Robert Brown, Donna Schlicht, and Glenn (Gale) Brown; Sister in law, Judy (Dr. Gal) Sarmeinto; Brothers in law: David Basner, and Jim Bannan; Many other loving family members and dear friends. James was also preceded in death by his son in law, Tim Dreher; Siblings: Erma Lee Mayer, Ray Brown, and Jerry Brown.
