Kanyak, Elna Mae - Age 83, of Fenton, formerly of Elkton, died January 13, 2019. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, January 16 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Pastor Dean Dumbrille officiating. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Fenton. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Tuesday with a 6:30 PM VFW Auxiliary Memorial Service, and 10 AM until the time of the funeral Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Fenton VFW Ladies Auxiliary . Elna was born October 25, 1935 in Elkton the daughter of Walter and Alma (Voss) Schuette. She came to Fenton in 1960. She married Junior "JR" Kanyak on April 15, 1967 in Fenton; he preceded her in death January 29, 2006. Elna retired from GM in 1994 with 22 years of service working as a press operator and office clerk. She was a member of UAW Local 1292 retirees. She was a member of the Fenton VFW Curtis Wolverton Post 3243 Auxiliary and had volunteered for the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. She loved her flowers and flower gardening, traveling, and time at the cabin and snowmobiling. Surviving are: four children, Cynthia Carmer of Spring Hill, TN, Charles (Denise) Richmond of Fenton, Gerald (Jean) Richmond of Swartz Creek, Michael (Jeanette) Kanyak of Linden; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Dale (Donna) Schuette; sister Joyce Rosenthal; sister-in-law Kay Schuette; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Alma; father, Walter; step-mother, Ella; siblings, Richard Schuette, Gerald Schuette, Arlene Fritz and Don Schuette.
