RICE, Randolph R. - Of Flint Twp., age 72, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Monday, March 4, 2013
at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 5151 Lennon Road, Flint with a Military Service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard.
Reverend Desiree Lawson officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
Visitation 4-8pm Saturday and 1-8pm Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home,1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Mr. Rice will be at the church 12pm Monday until the time of the service.
Randy was born in Flint on December 11, 1940, the son of Wendle and Ethel Rice. Randy married Pat Burgess on September 15, 1962 in Flint. Randy graduated from Flint Central High School, Class of 1959 and served in the United States Army Reserve for 27 years, retiring as a Sgt. Major. He was a paid on call member with the Flint Twp. Fire Department for 42 years, participated in the Great Lakes Burn Camp for many years and was a member of the Flint Generals Hockey Booster Club for 40 years. Randy enjoyed golfing, trout fishing, playing and watching hockey and playing cribbage. Randy retired from General Motors V8 Engine Plant in 1992 after 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #659.
Surviving are wife, Pat;
children, Scott and wife Kathy of Bath, MI and Kimberly Halstead of Harrison, MI;
grandchildren, Jeremy and wife Brittany Gatz of Auburn, GA, Elizabeth and husband Andrew Howland of Dimondale, MI, Melissa Rice and Andrew Rice both of Bath, MI, Joseph Halstead and ShoShauna Halstead both of Harrison;
five great-grandchildren, PJ, Cameron, Mya, Hudson and Weston;
brother-in-law, Richard Oblinger of Starke, FL;
2 nieces and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sheila Oblinger.
