GREEN, Richard “Dick” of Flushing, age 81, died Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Hospice House of Shiawassee County. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019, at First Flint Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4285 Beecher Road, Flint, MI. Pastor Jonathan Chitwood will officiate. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date. Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 3rd at Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing and 12-1 p.m. on Friday, January 4th at First Flint Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Flint. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First Flint Seventh-Day Adventist Worthy Students Fund.
Dick was born on October 10, 1937, the son of Glenn and Janet (Brown) Green. He was a 1955 graduate from Flint Central High School and earned a degree in retail sales from Mott Community College in 1957. Three years later, he joined the United States Navy and served as a hospital Corpsman while living in both Virginia and Minnesota. He was honorably discharged in 1964, the same year he began his 44 year career at McLaren General Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist before retiring in 1997. He married Sadie Adams in Flint, Michigan, on October 23, 1970. Dick always gave back to his community by helping those in need at First Flint Community Services Center. He was very involved in his church by serving as a Deacon and Home and School Leader. In his free time, Dick loved to paint, read, arrange flowers, and do word searches, but most of all he loved being Papa to his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sadie Green; children, Sharie (John, MD) Dengler of Johnson City, Tennessee, Laura (Marty) Richard of Flushing, Michigan, and Gregory (Heather) Green of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; grandchildren, Erica (Brandon) Evans of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, Emily (Eric) Sturkie of Durham, North Carolina, Elyse (fiancé Kenneth Liu) Dengler of Birmingham, Alabama, Riley Richard of Flushing, Michigan, Jennifer Green of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Elizabeth Green of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Stephen Green of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Jackson Richard of Flushing, Michigan, Abigail Green of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Zachary Green of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; great-grandchildren, Ethan Sturkie, Claire Sturkie, and Magnolia Evans; brother, William (Suzanne) Green; sister-in-law, Sally (Keith) McKenzie; “adopted” son, John DeWyse; and several nieces and nephews. |
