KNIGHT, Josephine - Of Flushing, age 72, died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 4133 Calkins Road, Flint Township, Father Hanna Tayar and Father Roy Horning con-celebrating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Flushing Rotary Scholarship Fund. Visitation 7-9p.m. Saturday and 1-8p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home. An Incense Service will be held 7p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Josephine will be at the church 9a.m. Monday until the time of the Mass.
Josie was born in on June 4, 1938 in Flint, the youngest of six children of George and Mary (Chekrallah) Faris. She attended All Saints and Sacred Heart Schools, graduating in 1956. She continued her education at Flint Junior College (Mott) and Eastern Michigan University, and obtained both Bachelors and Masters degrees in elementary education. “Jo” began her teaching career at St. Matthews and Holy Rosary Schools. She retired in 1999 after many years with the Flint Community Schools, teaching various grades at Anderson Elementary. She had a unique teaching style and a remarkable memory of her students for many years. Josie married Gerald (Jerry) Knight at Sacred Heart Church on July 28, 1962 and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2003. A good and faithful servant in her profound Catholic faith, she was a member of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir, Morningstar Society and Altar Society. She was also a member of St. Robert’s Church and attended a weekly Bible study group in Flushing, where she had resided since 1975. Josie and Jerry were active members of the Flushing Rotary and firmly believed in its mission as a service club. She was a proud recipient of the Paul Harris Award. Josie was a wonderful teacher, friend, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother to her beloved grandchildren, and was “Imme” (mother) to many of her children’s friends.
Josie is survived by her three children, Teresa (Mark), Christina (Tim) Romzek and Michael (Erren) Knight; 5 Grandchildren, Paul, Nina, Michael and Mitchell Romzek and Meredith Knight;
sister, Helen (Ralph) Burgess; brothers, Joseph (Marylin) Faris, Philip (Marie) Faris and Edward (Carol) Faris; sisters-in-law, Jeanie Faris, Marie Knight; brothers-in-law. Tom (Donna) Knight and Richard (Cheryl) Knight; many dear nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws, Roy and Elizabeth Knight, brother, Raymond Faris, brother-in-law, Dr. Ralph Knight and sister-in-law, June Knight.
