Donald Roy Huff passed away peacefully while with his family and fellow hunters at bear camp in Baraga, Mi on Saturday, October 2, 2010.
Mr. Donald Huff was born on September 22, 1937 in Johannesburg, Mi to Russell and Cora (Blake) Huff. He was raised in Johannesburg, and graduated from Johannesburg-Lewiston High School and Alpena Community College. He served his country as part of the U.S. Navy and was awarded a certificate of graduation by the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Navy Department, Washington, D.C. in 1961. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the annual Labor Day and Memorial Day parties that were hosted at his residence, rain or shine. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching. He owned Don’s Northland Real Estate. He was Otsego County Road Commissioner for 22 years and also served as an Otsego County Commissioner. Don was very active in the community serving on many boards, including the Otsego County Parks and Recreation, Pigeon River Advisory, and the Michigan Bear Hunters Association. Mr. Huff is survived by his daughter, Dawn (John) Cottrell of Gaylord; two grandchildren, Lance and Liza; siblings, Richard (Theresa) Huff of Johannesburg, Hazel Dupont, Elaine (Larry) Thompson of St. Helen, Keith (Sherry) Huff of Johannesburg, and Fern (Stanley) Kwapis of Johannesburg; brother-in-law, Kenneth Sewell of Johannesburg; 11 nieces; and 23 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Cora; step-father, Roger Redick; sisters, Jean Buc, Karen Sewell, Carol Kocur; brother, James Huff; sister-in-law, Bonnie Huff; brothers-in-law, Andrew Kocur and Chuck Dupont; and niece, Cindy Huff. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 5 p.m. from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Reverend James Mathis, officiating. VISITATION at the church will take place on Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services. Contributions in memory of Donald R. Huff may be made to the Huff family for multiple charities.
