Ramon “Ray” Gene Hicks, age 83, of Roscommon, died May 31, 2013 at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City. Ray was born August 17, 1929 in Detroit to Wilford & Elma (Davenport) Hicks.
He served during the Korean Conflict with the US Navy, reaching the rank of CD2.
He married Nancy Lou Parr on June 19, 1954 in Flint. Ray ran Beecher Machine Shop and retired in 1988 as a welder from GM Metal Fabrication on Bristol Rd., in Flint. He and Nancy moved to Roscommon in 1988. He was a proud member of UAW Local 659 in Flint, VFW Post #3087 in Flint, Mt. Morris Masonic Lodge #535 F. & A.M. and Eastern Star Chapter #474. He was also a Shriner with Elf Khurafeh Shrine Center and a 32° Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Bay City where he was a life member. Ray also loved hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; step-brother, Clarence (Betty) Smith of Tawas; half-brothers, Johnny (Kathy) Hicks of Marine City and Tom (Boots) Hicks of St. Clair; half-sister, Gail (Jim) Thomas of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willie Hicks; sister-in-law, Honey Hicks; step-brother, Peter Smith and half-brother, Barry Hicks.
Visiting will be on Friday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 PM. Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday all at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or the American Lung Association.
