ALBRECHT, Roy H. - of Clio, age 90, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Friday, July 21, 2017. Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church - 520 Butler St., in Clio. Pastor Erik Cloeter officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Tuesday from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM and at the church on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Contributions may be made to Reverence Home Health and Hospice, Messiah Lutheran Church, or the American Cancer Society.
Roy was born June 25, 1927 in Wellesley, Ontario to the late Edial and Lavina (Schweitzer) Albrecht. He married Elaine Heinbecker on August 20, 1949. She preceded him in death December 26, 2007. Roy and Elaine loved to travel and were part of the founding members of the Coachmen Club. Roy played hockey well into his 70’s and was the only off-ice official who had been working games since the debut of Flint pro hockey in 1969. He enjoyed his 1961 Chevy Impala convertible and won many awards at Back to the Bricks and other shows. He retired from the City of Flint on December 24, 1993 with over 13 years of service. Roy was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and prior member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Roy could often be heard saying “it’s a good day for a trip to the casino”. He will be greatly missed by his family, and special friend, Grace Stanton. Roy’s contagious laughter will also be missed by all, and purses will be safer!!
Surviving are: Daughter, Judy Hunter (John); Grandson, Kevin Hunter (Lisa); Great-granddaughter, Sarah Hunter. Roy was also preceded in death by his brothers, Art and Murray.
