BAIRD, Floyd E. – of Montrose, age 87, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Genesys Convalescent Center in Grand Blanc. Funeral Services will be held 2PM Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Rev. Robert Lemming officiating. Burial will be in Montrose Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1PM until 8PM and on Thursday from 1PM until the time of service at 2PM. Contributions may be made to Montrose Senior Center.
Floyd was born on September 7, 1926, in Fowlerville, Michigan to the late Grover Cleveland and Susan (Ireland) Baird. He moved to a farm in Henderson, Michigan with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He told the story often of driving a team of horses at the age of seven while working that farm. At the
age of 18, he married Barbara J. Molesworth on June 30, 1945, in Lennon, Michigan. Floyd continued farming until 1957. In November of 1954, he hired
into Ternstedt in Flint and worked there until retiring as a supervisor in 1981. He then was an insurance salesman for three years and became the Sexton at the
Montrose Township Cemetery in 1988, working there until he retired in 2007. Floyd's wife, Barbara, preceded him in death on November 16, 2006. He was a
member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Henderson. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, raising rabbits, cooking, chasing his dogs and activities at
the Montrose Senior Center.
Surviving are: children, Nancy (Roger) Austin of Grand Rapids, Kathleen (Jason) Young of Madison Heights, Eric (Nancy) Baird of Burt, Jeff (Michelle) Baird of Spring Lake, Robin (Tom) O'Connell of Grandville, Tim Baird of Montrose; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Rachel (Don) Taylor of Durand. Floyd was preceded in death by son, Gary Baird; brothers, Ward and Wayne Baird; sister, Theresa Schlack. Please sign our guest book or share an online condolence with the family at www.oguinnfh.com.
