Jose Moreno, 94, of Durand, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Fostrian Court in Flushing. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 11am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr. Durand. Rev. Fr. Daniel Westerman will celebrate with burial to follow in Lovejoy Cemetery, Durand. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel, 501 N. Saginaw St. on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 2-8pm, the rosary will be prayed at 7pm at the funeral home.
Jose was born on March 19, 1925 in Jacona, Mexico to the late Antonio and Jesus (Castillo) Moreno. On December 7, 1956 he married Esperanza Ochoa in Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico. Jose worked for Grand Trunk Railroad for 25 plus years before his retirement. Jose lived a simple life that included God, family, and cookies. He loved the outdoors, being in his garden, and tending to his plants.
Mr. Moreno is survived by his children; Mary (Alberto) Newball, Susana (Kevin) Green, and Martha (David) Wilson. His grandchildren; Ryan (Laurel) Green, Elisa Newball (Nelson Suarez), Megan (Michael) Burley, Christine (Jason) Kopec, Blanca (Robert) Underly, Susana (Collin) Walkling, Nathaniel Green, and Jack Wilson. His great-grandchildren; Easton, Ella, Isabella, and Leah, also his sisters, Consuelo and Cruz.
He was preceded in death by his wife in July 1967, his twin daughters, Juanita and Guadalupe, his brother, Pedro, and sisters; Maria, Dolores and Luz.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, or the American Heart Association.
