Smith, Darwin J. – of Flushing, age 76, went home to be with his Lord September 11, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, September 16, 2013 at Mayfair Bible Church – 5339 W. Pierson Rd. in Flushing. Pastor Dean Stewart officiating. Friends may call at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Sunday from 1-8 PM and at the church on Monday from 10AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be donated to the charity of their choice.
Darwin was born April 20, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to the late Cecil and Alice (Adams) Smith. He had resided in Flushing most of his life. Darwin married Bonnie Weber on June 25, 1960. He was the owner and operator of American Realty in Flushing for 47 years. Darwin was also a very active member of Mayfair Bible Church where he served as an elder, organist and member of the Building Committee. He was also a member of the Flushing Optimist Club, the Flint Organ Theatre Club and was a charter member and board chairman of Flint Christian School. Darwin enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Silver Lake in Mears. He was also a certified private pilot. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and serving his Lord and his church. Darwin never met a stranger and will be sadly missed by many.
Surviving are: wife, Bonnie: 3 children: Jeff (Brenda) Smith of Swartz Creek, Jennifer (Jeff) LaFerney of Davison and Shelly (Thad) Beckman of Swartz Creek. 6 grandchildren: Mindy (Ben), Jacob (Sarah), Torey, Teryn, Jordan and Jaxon. Great granddaughter, Lorelai. Brother, Phil (Linda) Smith of Phoenix, AZ. Several nieces and nephews. Darwin was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary.
