WINEBAUGH, Roy Frank - Of Flint, age 97, passed away quietly Monday, June 22, 2015.
Funeral service will be held 10am Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Mark Lasley officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Visitation 4-8pm Wednesday and 9:30am Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Roy was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on February 24, 1918 to Eunice and Ethel Winebaugh. Roy lived a long happy life full of love and many friendships. He farmed for many years. He was one of the last of our Greatest Generation. Enlisting into the United States Army on the evening of December 7, 1941, Roy served four years of World War II as a Medic in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska.
In 1956, Roy and his family left the farm life in Arkansas, moving to Flint, Michigan for a job at the Grand Blanc “Tank Plant”. He retired after 25 years in 1981, and continued to reside in Flint Township for the remainder of his life.
Roy never met a person he could not talk to. Roy was a founding member of Shannon Mission Church, Pocahontas, Arkansas, and New Haven Baptist Church, Burton Michigan. He loved the Lord and openly looked forward to meeting his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Roy’s reunion party in Heaven is made up of many prior generations, his loving wife of 63 years, Ruby, his daughter Yevonne and son-in-law, Frazier, sharing his new beginning are sisters, Beatrice, Elsie, Ruby, brother, Homer and great-grandson, Stephen Frymark.
He married Ruby Fields on May 11, 1946 in Pocahontas, Arkansas and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2009. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was also a member of UAW Local #1292.
Surviving are younger brother, Willard Winebaugh of Pocahontas AR;
grandsons, Thomas (Cindy) Self, Charles (Brenda) Self;
granddaughter, Rebecca (Keith) Barnett;
great-grandchildren, Michael Self, Tim Self, Heather Frymark, Kelly Self, Megan Hodge, Michael Wilson and Jamie Rusch;
great-great-grandchildren, Ruby Self, Charli Self, Matthew Wilson and Michaela Wilson.
