Retired Flint Fire Captain Joseph Luke Weller of Flint & Swartz Creek, age 64, died Sunday April 26, 2015 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday April 30, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 404 Dayton St. Davison. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery with Military Honors. Family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon till 7:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. A family rosary will be prayed at 6:45 pm Wednesday evening. Mr. Weller will lie in state at the church from 10:00 am Thursday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in Joe’s memory to St. Mary Catholic Church, Swartz Creek or Swartz Creek American Legion Post 294. Joseph was born in Flint Michigan on March 29,1951 the son of the late Louis H & Eva M (Muntian) Weller and has resided in the Flint-Swartz Creek area his entire life. He was joined in marriage to Kathleen Duso on August 1, 1975 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand. Answering the call of his country Joseph served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Swartz Creek, a life member and Past Post Commander of American Legion Post 294 of Swartz Creek. Joe was employed by the Flint Fire Department as one of the first Fire Paramedics, He served the citizens of Flint for twenty five years retiring as Captain in 2001. Surviving is wife Kathleen, daughter Dr. Julie Secrest and husband Scott, son Matthew Weller, grandchildren Scarlett Vivian Secrest, Lillian Julia Secrest, and expected arrival of Grandson Secrest in September. He also leaves his brother Louis G. Weller and wife Pamela, sister Helen Carpenter and husband Chip, and a host of other relatives. Joseph is preceded in death by sister Robin Kiess.
