Deacon Lawrence Clifton “L.C.” Golden, Sr. was born January 12, 1926 in Camden, Arkansas, the son of Mr. Sandy and Polida Golden. Lawrence served in World War II and was Honorably Discharged. After serving, Mr. Golden moved to Flint, MI and retired from Buick, a division of General Motors after 38 years of service. He also worked at Davis Auto Sales for 17 years. Lawrence was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Helen Blanche Elliott on May 14, 1948. To this union five children were born; Shirley, Lawrence, Jr., Pearl, Denise and Diane. Dea. Golden was a faithful and devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served the Lord as Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board for 17 years. Deacon Golden was known for his sharp dressing. He was a strong, loving, husband, father & grandfather. He touched everyone around him with wisdom, love and tried to bring everyone to Christ. Deacon Golden was calm, soft spoken and a God-fearing man.
Deacon Lawrence Clifton Golden, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: children, Lawrence, Jr. “Iggy” (Mary) Golden of Durand, MI, Pearl “Buzzy” (Jerry) West of Detroit, MI and Denise “Shag)” Golden of Flint; 13 grandchildren, Taqualia Weems, Taracia “Shawn”, all of Flint, Yolontenette “Yonnie” of Detroit, MI, LaTeesha Golden of Flint, Edward Golden of Ohio, Ricco Golden of Flint, Antwan “Kariffe” (Beatrice) Golden of Detroit, MI, Deonta Golden of Flint, LaChyara Golden of Washington, D.C., Shanel of Indiana, Nathan and Samuel Pickerel, both of Durand, MI; 21 great-grandchildren; great-great grandchild; 2 sisters, Atessie Cross and Erma Jean Love; 2 brothers, Willie Golden and Franklin “Red” Golden, all of Las Vegas, NV, numerous, nieces and nephews; 3 sisters-in-law, Myrtle Samuels of Detroit, MI, Shirley and Lorea Golden, both of Flint.
Deacon Golden was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Blanche Elliott-Golden; 2 daughters, Shirley Golden Gant and Diane “Dinky” Golden; grandson, Alvin “AJ” Golden; parents; 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
