SMITH, Robert E. – of Davison, age 87, passed away May 21, 2016 at Genesee Care Center. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Jonathan Moyer officiating. Burial will be in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Tuesday. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Robert was born in West Branch, MI on July 10, 1928, son of the late Harold and Mabel (Robbins) Smith. He married Barbara J. Ross on June 10, 1950 in Flint and she preceded him in death in September 21, 2010. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He liked to spend his winters at Pleasant Lake RV Resort in Bradenton, Florida. Robert enjoyed golfing, bowling, and square dancing with his wife. He especially loved to go deer hunting with his sons and fishing with his grandson. Robert played softball until the age of 75. He retired from GM with over 30 years at the V8 Engine Plant and was a member of the UAW Local 659.
Robert is survived by his children, Gerald W. Smith, Patty H. (Kevin) Hough; grandchildren, Brian A. Smith, Michael R. Hough, Jackson E. Smith, Shelby K. Newell; great-grandson, James S. Smith; sister, Helen I. Smith. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Mabel (Robbins) Smith; son, George H. Smith; grandson, Patrick L. Hough.
