John was born May 1, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to Emery E. and Lillian M (Beegle) Hatchel. He resided most of the life in Clio. He graduated from Clio High School with the Class of 1970. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves from October 11, 1972 and was honorably discharged on August 14, 1978. John was employed at Chevrolet Metal Fab as a Tool & Die Tradesman, retiring after 30 years of service. He was also a member of Union Local #659. He married his loving wife Susie (Huneycutt) Hatchel on May 8, 1993 in Las Vegas during one of many motorcycle trips they enjoyed together. He loved riding his motorcycle and loved the views and countryside along the way. John enjoyed spending time outside, in his garage (man cave) while working on different projects. He enjoyed woodworking and fixing and making things work and run. He liked watching sports on TV and hanging out with his nephews, Bob Perge and other close friends. Most of all he loved family gatherings, holidays and other occasions at his home cooking on his grill.
He leaves behind: wife, Susie Hatchel; daughter, Lark Gonzales (Joe) Redd; step son, Darrell (Karen) Huneycutt; 3 grandsons, Holden Redd, Brady Redd and Michael Huneycutt; step grandson, Wesley Tricky; brother, Larry (Teresa) Hatchel; sisters, Emra (Fred) Blakely, Linda (Jerry) Bailey and Margaret Richardson; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, 1 great great nephew, cousins, uncles and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Emery and Lillian Hatchel and great niece Emalyn Hatchel. Our family is blessed to have had him in our lives and he will be greatly missed. A special Thanks to the McLaren Hospice team of Sara and Tammy, who tenderly and compassionately cared for John (Rick) and our family.
