SGT. 1st Class Jacob E. Schlereth of Opelika Alabama formerly of Vassar passed away suddenly Tuesday November 27, 2012, Jacob was 31.
Jake was born Dec. 1, 1980 in Saginaw MI and was a 1999 graduate of Vassar High School. After high school Jake joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY for most of his career. He was more recently stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia as an Army Reconnaissance Course Instructor. During Jakes Army Career he had been deployed three times, once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan, with his most recent tour ending in 2011. Jake had received two bronze stars with valor, among many other awards and honors. On April 14, of 2007 Jake married Margaret Bentley.
Jake loved anything out doors; he loved hunting, fishing, and boating. He loved spending time with friends and family, his most favorite time was his time with Margaret and their son Caleb. “He was such a good daddy and husband”.
Jake leaves his loving family to cherish his many wonderful memories, wife Margaret, son Caleb Schlereth, parents, mother Pam Peplinski and her fiancee Rod Blake, brother Josh Peplinski and sister Lydia Peplinski, father Craig Schlereth, and half brother Max Schlereth, grandparents, David & Betty Bradley Sr., Frank & Shirley Schlereth, very special uncles, Tom & wife Crystal Bradley, and their daughter Emilee, David Bradley Jr. and his son Kendall.
