BURKE, Burrell William (B.W.) – of Burton, age 83, passed away April 21, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at First General Baptist Church, 1102 W. Hemphill Rd., Flint, MI 48507; Reverend Tellis Simon officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Tanner Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. On Wednesday, there will be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First General Baptist Church or the charity of choice.
Burrell was born in Dexter, Missouri on December 9, 1928, son of the late Clyde and Bertha (Triplett) Burke. He proudly served his country with the US Navy (Okinawa) from 1946-1947. Burrell married Joyce Shelton, from Clarkton, MO, on February 21, 1948. Together, they came to Michigan in 1949, where they founded BW Burke Trucking and Excavating. He was a member of #324 Operating Engineers and #332 Teamsters. Burrell was a subcontractor to C.J. Rogers Construction for over 30 years. The Burkes most recently celebrated Burrell’s 60th year in business with “Burke Enterprises, Inc.”. Burrell was a member of First General Baptist Church, the Burton Bentley Kiwanis and a past member of the Burton Business Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing “up north”. Burrell was a family man who deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burrell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; children, Larry (LaVonne), David (Dianne), Bill (Michelle), Richard, Stephanie (Ric) Collins; grandchildren, Andrea, Trisha, Jodie, Todd, Julie, Richie, Jimmy, Cassondra, Jared, Annika, Natalie; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Marge); twin brother, Earl (Ruth); sisters, Ruth (Clifford) Townsend, Mable Deno, Velma (Floyd) Glenn, Thelma Harris; many beloved nieces,
nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, James and sister, Martha. The Burke family gives special thanks to Tendercare Health Care of Frankenmuth and Avalon Hospice.
