On June 28, 2014 Linda Joan Engstrom passed away from complications from rheumatoid arthritis and multiple spinal surgeries. She was 73.
She was at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc surrounded by her husband of 34 years, Roger Engstrom, and her two children, Christopher, age 50, and Kimberly, 48, when she died.
Linda was born April 8, 1941 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint, Mich. to Mary Jane and Donald B. Hawkins. She graduated in 1959 from Central High School and attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. Linda later graduated in 1963 from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti with bachelor's degree and later earned her master's degree in special education. She was a special educator throughout her career, spending the last 18 years working for the Genesee Intermediate School District at the Elmer Knopf Learning Center in Flint.
Linda married Robert Coseglia in 1961. The couple had two children, Christopher and Kimberly. Robert died of cancer in 1976. She married Roger Engstrom in 1980. The couple met on the slopes at Mount Holly after she stopped to help one of Roger's children who was injured while skiing. They went on their first date a year later and were engaged shortly after.
Roger and Linda built a log house in Lapeer and lived in their dream home for 33 years. They shared many adventures including scuba diving in Cozumel, Mexico, and skiing in Michigan. Linda showed no fear in her bungee jumping debut with Roger's son in Arizona! Her family will miss her love of grill cheese sandwiches.
Survivors include husband, Roger; children Christopher Coseglia (Jacqueline) and Kimberly Coseglia; stepchildren Matthew Engstrom (Laura), Jason Engstrom (Cindy); sister, Mary Helen Ryan; brother-in-law, Mike Engstrom; sister-in-law Janet Carter; mother-in-law Hazel Engstrom; nephew Randy Smith; grandchildren Evan Engstrom, Chase Engstrom and Tyler Flaherty; and a large extended family who cared about her very much.
She was preceded in death by mother Mary Jane Hawkins, husband Robert Coseglia and niece Cynthia Kay.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 90 Millville Road, Lapeer, MI 48446.
Dinner will follow the service at the church.
Roger asks that memorial donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
