LaCROSS, Henry (Hank) – Died Friday, after battling eight years from a misdiagnosed surgery. He was 78 years old. The problems he dealt with daily never took away his positive attitude or his kind and gentle personality.
Service for Henry will be held at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, Pastor Paul Ytterock officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
Henry, only his friends could call him Hank, was born June 25, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to Napoleon (Paul) and Victoria LaCross. He married his soulmate, Carol Ann (Moore) on June 23, 1962, making their home in Grand Blanc and Fenton, Michigan.
Henry worked for Michigan Bell, Ameritech, AT&T for 35 years. After retirement, he spent time at Phone Michigan, and as a teller for Citizens Bank. His focus was helping wherever he could. He volunteered for Genesys Hospital (Flower cart), Loose Senior Center Tax Aide, the Cancer Society, and in earlier years, Junior Achievement. He visited schools in the area entertaining children on the joys of being an amateur telephone engineer.
Henry was a US Army (Reserve) Sergeant, training new soldiers.
Henry was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Flint, and previously one of the first members and Deacon at Kirkridge Presbyterian in Grand Blanc. He taught Sunday School there for several years.
Golfing and yearly visits to the Shakespearean Festival were his passion. He was a scorekeeper for the Michigan Bell Golf League and visited the Shakespearean Festival in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, for 46 years. He was an amateur World War II scholar. His smart and searching mind gave him the tools to write a novel encompassing those years.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Carol LaCross;
daughters, Dr. Lisa and husband Jeremy Gerak of San Antonio, Texas,
Annette LaCross of Cincinnati, Ohio;
his son, Christopher LaCross and fiancee’ Sharon Wanigatunga of Ann Arbor, MI;
grandsons, Jake and Johnny Gerak of San Antonio;
brother, William and wife Mayra LaCross of California;
mother-in-law, Antionette Moore;
several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org), which helped the family through Katrina and continues to help our soldiers fighting for our freedom, including his grandson, Jake Gerak, who has been appointed to West Point.
Preceding him in death are his mother, Victoria LaCross; his father, Paul LaCross and his sister, Jennie (LaCross) Schutt.
Special thanks to Dr. Rujakumari Swamy, whose dedication and excellent care allowed Henry to survive the last eight years with a sense of normalcy.
